Justin Yeager was one of the seniors who led the North Haven boys’ golf team on the links this spring. Justin earned a spot in the starting lineup and helped North Haven notch five victories as the team returned to action following the canceled 2020 season.

Justin continually recorded lower scores as his senior year unfolded. In the last meet of his career at North Haven, Justin shot a season-best score of 47 in tri-meet sweep versus Career and Hillhouse.

“That was the lowest score I had shot all season, so it was a bit prideful that I was able to get my best score at the end of the season,” says Justin. “Outside of the season, I shot a 42 at the Traditions in Wallingford, so I’m happy to see my game improving every day.”

Justin had missed out on his junior season at North Haven due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Justin felt glad that North Haven was able to complete the 2021 campaign without any setbacks.

“I wasn’t too worried about playing through COVID, because golf is primarily outside,” Justin says. “I was just happy that we got a season and that we all stayed healthy.”

Justin believes that good things are in store for North Haven during the next few years. Justin says that the group of freshmen who joined the fold this year are going to prove instrumental to North Haven’s growth as a program.

“I would say that this season went overall pretty well,” says Justin. “We had a solid group of freshmen join the team, and I have high hopes for their playing abilities moving forward into the next season.”

Head Coach Kevin St. Pierre was impressed with how Justin performed over the course of the spring season. Coach St. Pierre expects Justin to succeed in his future endeavors.

“Justin is a young man who resembles the true meaning of a student-athlete. Not only did he excel in the classroom but also on the golf course,” St. Pierre says. “Justin’s attitude and work ethic are traits that will help him not only in college, but also in the future in his professional career.”

Justin has formed a strong relationship with Coach St. Pierre throughout his time with the team. The recent graduate appreciates everything that St. Pierre has done for the benefit of the North Haven golf squad.

“I have a lot of respect for Coach St. Pierre. He has done so much to grow the golf team and improve the image of the team,” says Justin. “He clearly wants the best from all the players on the team and it shows.”

Out of all of his golfing memories at North Haven, the one that sticks out the most to Justin came when he was practicing with Coach St. Pierre one time.

“My favorite moment when playing was when coach told me not to try to shoot over a small tree,” Justin says. “I ended up nailing the tree and left a ball mark in the tree.”

When Justin isn’t playing a course, he’s typically working on his shots at the driving range. Justin often goes golfing with his father Bill.

“To improve my game, I try to get in extra range time. I also play on my own with my dad, who has continued to help my game while I played on the team,” says Justin. “My favorite aspect of the sport is the ability to see individual improvement over time.”

Outside of golf, Justin is a member of the Boy Scouts and serves as a youth leader for the program. He also enjoys playing Frisbee and volleyball in his spare time.

Justin will attend college at Southern Connecticut State University. Justin is undecided on whether he will compete for the club golf team, but he is excited to be studying graphic design at the school.

“Golf will always be a part of my life, but I want to focus on school more than anything as I make the next step into college,” Justin says. “Currently, I’m planning on majoring in graphic design. I look forward to having a greater level of independence during college and pursuing the things in life I find most interesting.”
