When it comes to maintaining a healthy balance between academics and athletics, Ryan Inglis has perfected the craft.

A senior at Morgan, Ryan was a captain on the Huskies’ football team and is currently serving in that role with the baseball team this spring. On top of playing two sports, Ryan has an excellent grade-point average, and he’s earned a scholarship to play football at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire.

“My junior year, I made First Team All-Pequot Conference at defensive back for the football team,” says Ryan. “I am a part of the National Honor Society and a Morgan Scholar Athlete. I am also a part of Morgan’s REACT group, as well as the Clinton Police Youth Group.”

The Morgan baseball team has a record of 8-8 in the 2021 season. The Huskies rebounded nicely after losing five of their first six games of the campaign. Ryan is looking to help Morgan go on a run in the Shoreline and State tournaments.

“I want for the team to make a good run in each tournament and to make it to the championship,” Ryan says. “So many teams have played us by our record and go into the game thinking it will be an easy win, and we have taken advantage of that and have earned a couple of wins from that mentality.”

Ryan’s love for the sport of baseball started at an early age. His favorite aspect of the sport is the thrill of a back-and-forth contest and the fact that there is no time cap on any game.

“Anything can happen in the game of baseball,” says Ryan. “There is no time limit for baseball. Both teams are given 27 outs each, and that’s what makes it so great.”

Head Coach Michael Grant likes how Ryan sets the tone in Morgan’s lineup, along with the way that the senior captain sets an example for his fellow Huskies.

“Ryan is our gritty leadoff hitter who sets the tempo for us,” Grant says. “He’s a very unselfish player who fights through injuries to play for his teammates.”

Ryan has developed a strong relationship with Coach Grant through the years due to their mutual passion for the game. Ryan credits Grant for being a mentor to him both on and off the field.

“Our relationship is fantastic. I am willing to go to Coach Grant to talk about baseball or anything,” says Grant. “I’ve learned lessons about baseball and life from Coach Grant. We both share a love for the sport. Coach Grant lives to coach us, and we live to play baseball.”

Aside from baseball, Ryan has also been playing football since the 4th grade. Ryan was disappointed to see his senior football season get canceled as a result of the COVID-19, but he’s looking forward to resuming his career when he suits up for Saint Anselm later this year.

“It will be almost two years since I have put pads on to play tackle football in August since I missed out on my senior year due to COVID-19. I applied to Saint Anselm College, because they have a strong criminal justice program. I also aspired to play football there,” Ryan says. “I was inspired by my head football coach Pete Nye, because he always encouraged us to become dreamers. I lifted and trained during the pandemic to achieve my dream of playing football at the collegiate level.”
