Tuccitto Likes to Strike on the Soccer Field

Zach Tuccitto is using his speedy feet to emerge as one of the most prolific scorers in the Shoreline Conference. Last fall, Zach was the second-leading scorer for the Morgan boys’ soccer team when it claimed Shoreline Conference and Class S state titles. This year, the junior striker netted 29 goals to go with 10 assists while guiding Morgan to another conference crown and a return trip to the Class S final. Zach finished the year having earned All-Shoreline Conference and All-State honors.

“I’ve been finding my runs, and my coaches have helped me with that, and those runs have made me a better player. The formation we play helps me score, as well,” says Zach. “My speed helps, too, as I’m one of the faster guys on the team. The main things have been my vision and speed.”

Zach gets great satisfaction when he helps the Huskies generate offense. As a striker, Zach knows that he has a lot of responsibility to put points on the board for Morgan.

“My favorite part of being a striker is scoring. It’s an amazing feeling, because you feel like you’ve made an impact,” Zach says. “The toughest part is also trying to score. You’re depended upon to score, so there is a lot of pressure there.”

Zach says that he’s increased both his strength and his speed as a result of hitting the gym. As his tenure at Morgan has progressed, Zach has also become a more confident soccer player who has no fear of committing a miscue on the pitch.

“Physically, I’ve gotten bigger and worked on my running. I’m able to take the ball quicker,” he says. “Mentally, I’ve gained more confidence and trust my teammates. I’m just worried about doing my best, and I don’t worry about if I make mistakes.”

Huskies’ Head Coach Ross Demay feels that Zach has immensely improved his skill set since last season. While Zach had a solid sophomore year, Demay was pleased to see him post even more robust totals as a junior.

“Zach has really grown this year,” Demay says. “He has beat out his amount of goals for the season from last year and tripled his assists from last year.”

It’s been a great ride for Zach and the Huskies during the past few seasons. Even with all the victories, Zach says the best part about playing soccer for Morgan is the atmosphere both on the field and in the stands.

“I just love being around people that I know with this team. These guys feel like they are my best friends,” says Zach. “I love going to practice every single day. The environment and the fans are also great. It really feels like a family here.”
