Steven Wohlke

Steven Frederick “Steve” Wohlke, 75, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2024, while surrounded by loving family. He was born March 1, 1949, in Waterbury to Genevieve and Fred Wohlke.

He grew up in Naugatuck and Woodbury, graduating from Marianapolis Prep School where he was a standout football player and threw javelin. He attended Southern Connecticut State University and was a member of Alpha Chi Rho fraternity. Steve worked in construction for most of his life, an able craftsman, car lover and avid football and baseball fan. In 1972, he met Regina Robbins in Madison, and was married on July 13, 1974.

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Regina; children, Erika Higgins (Peter) and Ross Wohlke (Amy); beloved grandsons, Owen, Jack and Reid Higgins, and Luke and Landon Wohlke; sister Joyce Lowe; nephew Scott Lowe (Moira); and niece Sue Pulsifer (Jim); and extended family.

Steve was a resident of Clinton for 49 years — a lifetime member of BPOE 1784, who coached Clinton youth sports and was a Cub Scoutmaster, helping to build the Scout Log Cabin on Route 81. His lifetime love of football continued after high school, playing semi-pro, coaching Clinton youth football and later, as an avid follower of the Tampa Bay Bucs. He grew up and lived in Connecticut but was most content at his condo in St. Pete, FL, enjoying warm weather for stretches of time for over 38 years, truly his happy place. Steve had a special spirit and a unique sense of humor that endeared him to so many.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate in Steve’s memory to the Unified Sports Program @ Old Lyme HS attn: Christine Corah, 69 Lyme St., Old Lyme, Ct 06371, or the Multiple Myeloma Foundation https://www.myeloma.org/take-action/fundraise/tributes-memorial-gifts.
