Faith Eikaas

Faith Harriet Sawyer Eikaas, 98, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024, at Connecticut Hospice, Branford, with her family by her side. She was born in Biddeford, Maine, on March 31, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Dwight and Florence Boothby Sawyer.

Faith was very intelligent and driven, having obtained her PhD in the 1950s at a time when this was no easy achievement for a woman. She worked as a professor at the University of New Haven for many years. Faith was a member of the American Folklore Society and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She was always very interested in her family’s genealogy. Faith was an avid traveler going to places like Thailand, Italy, India, Norway, Peru, Africa, Mexico City, and countless other places.

She was the mother of Derrick Moore, Denise (Jim) Johnstone, and Dianne Eikaas; grandmother of Christian Johnstone, Kirstin (Tony) Drake, and Sean (Jamie) Johnstone; great-grandmother of Roman and Arlo Drake; sister of Marjorie Fitanides and the late Bina Sawyer.
