Marguerite Ann (Hanrahan) Scecina


Marguerite Ann (Hanrahan) Scecina, a longtime resident of Guilford, passed away quietly on April 15, 2024, at Whispering Pines Nursing Center, East Haven.

She was the wife of the late Thomas E. Scecina.

Marguerite was born in New Haven July 18, 1938, daughter to the late Michael and Francis (Courtney) Hanrahan. She was the loving mother of Mark Scecina of New Haven, Thomas Scecina of Wallingford, and Taryn Scecina of Branford. She was an active member of St George Church in Guilford for over 30 years, involved in the Bible study group and charitable activities. Her passions were attending arts and craft festivals, vacationing in Cape Cod and Florida and game show television. Marguerite was a very caring person for her extended family and friends, always supportive in life’s circumstances.

Marguerite was a member of the first graduating class at St Aedan’s School in New Haven. She also attended Sacred Heart High School before going to St Mary’s Nursing School in Waterbury, receiving her RN in nursing. She worked for the VA Hospital, the Visiting Nurses Association, and Yale University Health. Returning to obtain her Public Health degree later in life, she again returned to work for both Yale at Cancer Information Center and the VA in various roles.

She is survived by her sister Ann Hetherington of Guilford; brother the late Michael Hanrahan; and grandchildren, Ben, Noah and Kayleigh.

Friends are invited to calling hours from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St, Guilford, and at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, with a reception following in the Church hall.
