Margaret C. Lieberman

Margaret C. Lieberman, better known as “Peg,” passed into eternal life at Middlesex Hospital on April 14, 2024, with her family at her side.

Born June 28, 1938, to the late Dr. and Mrs. David L. Lieberman, Sr., she spent her entire life in the same home in the Town of Chester. Peg attended Valley Regional High School before attending MacMurray College for an undergraduate degree and the University of Connecticut for a Master’s degree. She taught first and second grade at Deep River Elementary School for 36 years.

Unbeknownst to many, Peggy was the owner of the Inn at Chester from 1994-2003, a member of the Chester Village West Development Team, and was actively involved with the operation of Chesterfield Convalescent Hospital. Perhaps her proudest accomplishments were her service to her community and to her church. Until her death she served as a board member for the Visiting Nurses of the Lower Valley. She held various roles throughout the years at Valley Shore YMCA, Chester Public Library, and the Chester Historical Society. She was a lifelong member of the United Church of Chester.

Peggy was a true sports fanatic. She loved her UConn women’s basketball team and the New York Yankees. She also enjoyed boating in Eastern Long Island Sound, fishing in the Florida Keys, and visiting lighthouses.

She is survived by her nephew, David Lieberman and wife Marsha of Hobe Sound, Florida; niece Deborah Moore and husband Roy of Killingworth; and nephew Peter Lieberman and wife Amelie of Old Saybrook. She is also survived by cousin Bart Gullong of Jupiter, Florida; cousin Jane Gullong of New York City; and many grandnieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2024, at the United Church of Chester, 29 West Main Street, with a graveside service to follow in the Summer, date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Church of Chester and the Visiting Nurses of the Lower Valley, Inc.
