Thomas “Toby” Chandler

Thomas “Toby” Chandler, 75, of East Haven, passed away unexpectedly at home on Feb. 28, 2024. He was born Aug. 27, 1948, in New Haven to John Sr. and Julia (Doyle) Chandler. Thomas is survived by his loving daughter, Debbie Apotrias (Mark) of North Branford, along with three grandchildren, Thomas Kraszewski, Ayden Apotrias, and Courtney Apotrias. Thomas is also survived by his brother, John Jr. “Jack” Chandler (Fran) of East Haven; two nieces, Joanne Diotaiuto and Lisa Chandler; and special friend, Peter Latella.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary-Ellen (Lamb) Chandler (2013); daughter, Kathleen Chandler (2016); and an infant granddaughter, Julia Kraszewski.

Thomas “Toby” was big-hearted and genuine and a simple, humble, caring, but loyal, hardworking man. He accepted everyone with an open heart, open arms, and a perpetual smile. He had immense passion for his family, boating, clamming, and watching his grandchildren play sports. He would always try to look at the brighter things in life and was considered a very non-judgmental person to all. Toby worked for Latella Carting Co., Inc. for many years and then All-American Waste prior to his retirement.

His departure comes as a great shock and a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by his entire family and countless others who loved him deeply in his wide network of community. The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time.

Toby treasured his time with his granddaughter, Courtney, and provided weekly rides to her gymnastics practices. In light of that, the family would appreciate donation be made to The National Gymnastics Foundation, 1099 N. Meridian Street, Suite 800, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46204 in honor of my dad and her grandfather, Thomas Chandler.
