Matthew Gianitsos


Matthew Gianitsos, 86, a long-time resident of Clinton, passed away on Feb. 7, 2024. Matthew was born on the Island of Chios, Greece. on June 14, 1937. He was the son of Anestis and Vasilia Giannitsakis.

He was married for over 50 years to his lovely wife, Evelyn Havdouglas of New York City. He leaves behind his son, Dr. Anestis Gianitsos and his wife, Andrea; his loving daughter, Vassalia Gianitsos Witten and husband, David; sister, Matrona Menis and family, Dotsie and Dr. Daniel Kenny. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Matthew and David Gianitsos, Stavros Gianitsos and family, Anna Albanis and family, Eleni and Stephen Yates and family; and great-grandchild Mark Joseph Ritaldato; and many other nieces and nephews.

Matthew served in the Greek Merchant Marines. He became an American citizen and a proud and long-standing Clinton resident. He worked as a supervisor and foreman for over 40 years for the Stanley Bostitch Company headquartered in Rhode Island.

The Gianitsos family wishes to extend our sincerest thanks to Yale Hospital and staff and Dr. Swenson of Madison for exemplary care. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Make a Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, or The Orthodox Church are welcome. Funeral services were held at Swan Funeral Home on Feb. 15, with burial at the Indian River Cemetery. May his memory be eternal.
