Howard Straight

On Jan. 23, 2024, Howard E. Straight, 96, a longtime resident of Guilford, passed away at The Guilford House. Mr. Straight was born in Troy, New York, on Dec. 1, 1927. He was the son of Howard Straight and Agusta (Orth) Straight and the youngest of eight children.

Howard is the father of Carla Straight of Montpellier, Vermont, and step-father of John (late Debbie) Wynne of Guilford and Dolores (James) McSpadden of Geneva, Illinois. Howard is also survived by five grandchildren: Ashleigh (Joe) Duval, James (Erin) McSpadden, Katherine McSpadden, John (Kara) McSpadden, and Emma McSpadden; and one great-grandchild, Madison Rae McSpadden. Howard was predeceased by his wives, Ruth Brockett Straight and Dolores M. Wynne Straight.

Howard honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Before retirement, he worked as a design engineer at the Upjohn Corporation. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and barbershop singing.
