Delia M. Lynch

Delia M. “Peggy” Lynch was called to God to reunite with her beloved family and friends on Dec. 23, 2023. Delia was born June 8, 1933, in Flushing, New York. Delia devoted her life to helping others. She joined the Sisters of Mercy as a postulant in 1954 and most enjoyed her assignment teaching young people. In 1977, she entered Fordham University, where she obtained her master’s in religious education.

After leaving the convent, Delia became a counselor dealing with addiction. She became a respected specialist in counseling children of addicts, where she excelled. She completed her life of service by donating her body to Yale University to educate future medical professionals.

Delia was one of five siblings. She loved her family and spent as much time with her siblings and their offspring as possible. She was an adventurous and sociable person who made friends wherever she went. Adventurous is an understatement; for example, she jumped out of an airplane to celebrate her 80th birthday. She lived most of her life with joy and daring. She followed her own path without regard to restrictions or limits. Her desire was not to be regaled for her accomplishments but remembered for the joy and impact she had on others.

Delia is survived by her brother John and long-time companion Norm Ouellett, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Rosemary and Kathleen, and her brother, Patrick. She is also survived by several dear friends: Jenny, Diana, Lynne, and Maureen, who provided support to her religiously.

A celebration of Delia’s life will take place at 11 a.m. on Jan. 27, at Kirtland Commons, 60 Main Street, Deep River.
