01/11/2024 11:48 AMFrank J. Troncale, M. D. of Branford and the beloved husband of Mary Fesq Troncale, died on Jan. 7, 2024, at Connecticut Hospice. Dr. Troncale was born in Birmingham, AL, on March 7, 1937, son of the late Joseph Troncale and Rosalia “Lillie” Piazza Troncale.
He graduated from Loyola University of the South with a degree in biological sciences, received an M.D. from Tulane University, and went on to complete his internship and residency in New York City and Boston. After serving as an M. D. in the U. S. Army Medical Corps at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and in Bangkok, Thailand, for three years, he completed his gastroenterology fellowship at Cornell University Medical Center and Sloan Kettering Institute. In 1997, he co-founded the Gastroenterology Center of Connecticut and the Endoscopy Center of Connecticut, with offices in Hamden, Milford, and Guilford.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary Church (St. John Bosco Parish) in Branford. He was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and a lifelong devotee of the opera, especially Verdi. A mentor and friend to his colleagues, he believed strongly in the importance of fostering a culture of kindness and compassion in his medical practice. He was passionate about the importance of aging with dignity and was an active member of Shoreline Village CT, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping older individuals remain living in their homes. Up until his last days, he taught by example how to live with integrity and was regarded as a moral compass by those who knew and loved him.
Besides Mary, he is survived by his children, James Troncale of China, Michael (Harriet) Troncale of New York City, and Nicole Troncale of Clinton; and his grandchildren, Marisa and Luke Troncale. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Troncale.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday Jan. 14, at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford.
