Ellen McCaffrey Clark


Ellen McCaffrey Clark, 89, of Guilford, passed away on Dec. 23, 2023. Ellen was born Dec. 10, 1934, in Hartford, to Harry and Emily Kairott McCaffrey. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Drew Clark Jr.

Ellen had a vibrant personality and a deep love for fashion and acting. Before her marriage, she pursued her passion for both and even did some paid work in acting and modeling. Ellen graduated from Ellsworth High in 1952, then later attended Miss Hanover’s School of Modeling as well as taking courses at the Hartt School at the University of Hartford. Ellen’s outgoing nature led her not only to explore the arts but also to go out and meet new people whenever she could.

Ellen’s passion for theater led her to participate in Showcase Theater during the 1960s and 1970s. After her children were grown, Ellen worked at Lord and Taylor for a time. She was always up for going out to eat and experiencing new culinary delights.

Ellen is survived by her daughter, Ellen Clark, and her sons, Michael Clark and Spencer Clark. She is also survived by grandsons Nathaniel Clark, Mitchell Britton, Joshua Britton, and granddaughter Julia Clark. Ellen enjoyed the last 20 years of her life with special friend Marvin Murphy, and they enjoyed many trips to Jacksonville, Newport, and New London. Ellen also leaves behind several cousins to cherish her memory.

A memorial service will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at the SWF Foundation, 348 East Main Street, Clinton. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the SWF Foundation in Clinton, CT www.swffoundation.com/donate-volunteer or to a charity of choice in Ellen’s name.

Ellen McCaffrey Clark will be remembered for her vivacious spirit, love for fashion, and the joy she found in connecting with others.
