Carmella Gabrielli

Carmella “Millie” (Ansaldo) Gabrielli, 99, of East Haven, formerly of Orange, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 27, 2023, with her husband and family by her side. Carmella was born Nov. 28, 1924, in New Haven, to Nunzio and Maria (Celentano) Ansaldo. Carmella is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 80 years, Nicholas Gabrielli, and their two daughters, Patricia Gabrielli of Guilford and Judith Pospesil (Edward) of Guilford. Millie is also survived by a granddaughter, Cara Pospesil, sister-in-law Caroline Scorel, and numerous nieces and nephews. Millie is preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Nancy Higley, Clare Intelisano, Rose DellaSpina, Maria Ansaldo, Louis Ansaldo, Anthony Ansaldo, Joseph Ansaldo, and Alfred Ansaldo. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Millie enjoyed cooking and was always ready to try a new recipe. She was still making homemade pasta with the help of her aide. She had many hobbies over the years, but her favorite was needlepoint. When she and Nick retired, they began to travel. They took many bus trips and cruises with their extended family and friends. Their favorite trip was a month-long trip across the United States. In later years, they enjoyed spending time in Florida during the winter months.

Family received friends on Jan. 2 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Her funeral procession left the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home for a Mass of Christian burial in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven, with committal following at St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in memory of Carmella Gabrielli.
