12/14/2023 11:29 AMOn Dec. 7, 2023, John Mainetti, 87, a longtime resident of Guilford, passed away peacefully at home on the farmlands of his childhood home. Mr. Mainetti was born in Guilford on Jan. 4, 1936, the son of the late Lawrence Mainetti and Ines (Begnis) Mainetti. Loving Husband for 67 years to Jacqueline (Dufresne) Mainetti. Proud father of John Mainetti (Tereza) of Guilford, Cynthia Lafarier (Robert) of Wickford, Rhode Island, and Robert Mainetti (Marcia) of Fort Myers, Florida.
He leaves behind eight grandchildren, Jay, Brian, Melissa, John Jr., Katana, Jeffrey, Rebecca, and Rachel, and 14great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Rena Bolt, Ann Ghiroli, Dominick Mainetti, and Lori Burress. Predeceased by Sister Angelina Mainetti.
John is a graduate of Guilford High School. He was most remembered for his great big smile and his passion for cars. He loved the chicken farm that his family built, which he was honored to take over as a second-generation farmer for many years. He worked as a train engineer for New Haven Trap Rock (Tilcon) and retired as a State DOT Highway Division worker. John was a hard worker and a great provider. He also took time to enjoy car shows, play setback, have breakfast with friends, and spend time with family.
Friends are invited to calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St, Guilford. Burial will follow in St. George Cemetery, Hubbard Rd, Guilford.
