Dorothy V. Abbott

On Nov. 30, 2023, Dorothy V. “Dot” Abbott, 63, a longtime resident of Clinton and Guilford, passed away peacefully with family by her side. Dorothy was born in Bridgeport on March 14, 1960, to the late Francis Abbott and Dorothy (Sander) Abbott.

She is the loving mother of Sara Anderson (Brian) of Clinton, Brandon Tomasko of Branford, Ryan Tomasko of Wesley Chapel, Florida, and Kaleigh Limauro (Joseph) of Zephyrhills, Florida; the loving grandmother to seven beautiful grandchildren: Aiden Tomasko, Layla, Colter, Zoey Anderson and Marino, Everleigh, Carter Limauro, whom she loved so very much. Dot is also survived by her loving, longtime partner, Mark Andrade; her brother, Lawrence Abbott (Libby); and her sister, Kathy Barkocy. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her son Adam, her sister Susan, and her cherished pups, Captain, Bear, and Lily.

Dot was a true lover of nature and the outdoors. She spent much of her time with the monarch butterflies, which she raised, hatched, and then tagged in the summer, tracking their flights to Mexico. She was sure to feed her birds daily... probably the fattest birds in town. Her Audubon Society-worthy backyard featured many diverse flowers, a plethora of vegetables, and a Koi pond. Dot kept many dedicated gardens in memory of loved ones who passed before her. Grammy, as the kids called her, was always so proud of her grandchildren, and being with them brought her so much joy. Dot loved spending her days with her partner, Mark. Together they enjoyed life in the yard, laughter on the deck, and endless games of darts and dice in their “hobby house.” Dot will be missed, but not forgotten, by so many who loved her.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Yale New Haven Hospital, Gaylord Hospital, and Connecticut Hospice for their caring and compassion over the last few months.

Friends are invited to calling hours from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church Street, Guilford. Burial services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Connecticut Audubon Society, 314 Unquowa Road, Fairfield, CT 06824; https://www.ctaudubon.org/ or the ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929; https://www.aspca.org/ To share a memory or leave condolences, visit www.guilfordfuneralhome.com.
