Henry Velenchik

Henry Velenchik, 89, of Madison and formerly of Fairfield, passed away peacefully on Nov. 10. Henry was born in Bridgeport to Maurice and Tessie Velenchik.

He graduated from Central High in 1952 and attended the University of Miami. He was the proud builder and owner of Fairfield Plumbing and Heating Supply Co. for over 30 years. He also worked for the Plimpton and Hills Corporation in sales and management for over 20 years. Customers from all over the state enjoyed his wonderful sense of humor and jokes and benefited from his plumbing wisdom. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many years cruising the Long Island Sound with his wife, children, and grandchildren on The Vees. Henry loved spending time in Naples, Florida, and Mazatlan, Mexico, where he danced under the stars with his beloved wife, Judy. Two of the loves of his life were his Doberman girls, Lacie and Lucie, who never left his side. He was the epitome of a family man and adored his wife, children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. They were his everything. To know him was to love him, and he had an uncanny way of making everyone feel included. If you were part of Henry’s life, he always made you feel like you were one of his own.

Henry is survived by his loving wife and life partner of over 42 years, Judith Velenchik of Madison; children and their spouses: Tess and Jonathan Berger, Maury and Crystal Velenchik, Lois and David Moskowitz, Alan Velenchik, Whitney and Scott Weinberg and Phoebe and Douglas Schreiner; nephew Joseph Salem; and niece Jill Cohen; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister Eileen Tolk. He was predeceased by his twin sister, Helen Cramer. Henry will be greatly missed.

A graveside service was held on Nov. 12 at Rodeph Sholom Memorial Park, 183 Kings Highway East, Fairfield. For more information, visit www.greensfuneralhome.com. Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice or Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter.
