Lori Northrop

Lori Northrop passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family Oct. 25. She had bravely battled pancreatic cancer for six months.

Lori was born in Middletown on Oct. 10, 1961, to the late Raymond and Ila-Lee Northrop and grew up in Ivoryton. As a teen mother, Lori raised her daughter Jennifer while working as a school bus driver and earning her GED. She later owned a housecleaning business with her lifelong best friend, Johnna Goss, before earning her CNA certificate. Lori worked for 14 years at the Watrous Nursing Home in Madison, and until her 2023 cancer diagnosis, she was the Care Coordinator for Lower Valley Care Advocates in Essex. Lori and Jennifer were each other’s best friends. Jennifer, along with her spouse, Michael, provided loving care for Lori in the final stages of her illness.

Lori was quiet, giving, and always put others’ needs before her own. She was a homebody who loved to cook and spend time with her grandchildren. In 2009, Lori reconnected with Michael Pitts, whom she had met in Junior High School. They were married in January of 2012.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Pitts of Clinton; her daughter, Jennifer Warner Perkins, and son-in-law, Jeremy of Vermont; her grandchildren, Kyle Bailey of New Hampshire, Hunter and Ryan Bailey of Vermont; stepdaughter Megan Lynne of Missouri; stepson Michael Pitts of Vermont; sister Sharon (Stephen) Woods of Westbrook; brother Glen Northrop; six nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Lori’s hospice team from Home Care Plus Community Healthcare and Hospice of Guilford, especially Darlene, Chuck, Anna, Kathleen, and Dr. Donna Criscenzo.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lori’s memory to Home Care Plus Community Healthcare, 735 Boston Post Road, Guilford, CT 06437.

We invite you to join us for a Celebration of Life Ceremony to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at the American Legion Post 113 in Old Saybrook.
