Ann Marie Rickert

Ann Marie (Spurrell) Rickert, 89, a longtime resident of Madison, passed away on Oct. 17 at CT Hospice, Branford with her loving family by her side. She was the wife of the late James Jacob Rickert. Ann was born in Maynard, MA Oct. 9, 1934, daughter of the late Charles Spurrell and Anne Spurrell.

Ann was the loving mother of Robert Rickert and wife Randi, James Rickert of Madison, Cheryl Krusch and her husband Mark, who was like a third son, of Wallingford, and Tricia MacGregor and partner Vincent Quinn of Branford. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Daniel Rickert, Nicholas and Benjamin Krusch, Rachelle Rickert and Tucker and Cooper MacGregor; as well as seven great-grandchildren: Collin, Nathan, Parker, Maya, Arianna, Kellin, and Tanner. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mary Spurrell of Connecticut, and Alice Shull of Florida: and brother-in-law James Tuson of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters: Mary Veno, Dorothy Beauregard, Helen Barilone, and Molly Tuson; and brothers, Roger and Charles Spurrell.

Mrs. Rickert was a 1952 graduate of Maynard High School. Before retirement, she worked as an assembly worker for Raytheon, a job that she took much pride in, before finally settling into her life’s work of raising her four children. That was a job that she took very seriously and did with the utmost love, dedication, and devotion.

Prior to her husband’s death in 1993, they enjoyed traveling the country in their RV and a trip abroad with friends. After that, she continued to travel with family and friends. Ann enjoyed cooking, but she especially loved to bake, especially around the holidays. She loved to sew and do puzzles, and to walk in and find her reupholstering or refinishing a piece of furniture was never a surprise. When she was still driving, it was not uncommon for her to be gone all day shopping with her sidekick and sister-in-law Mary. Her favorite pastime was visiting with family and friends. She cherished her visits with her children, but especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ann was an avid WWE fan, watching every Monday and Tuesday evening, and would never miss Friday night Smackdown! She loved to laugh; always had a smile on her face and spread happiness and laughter to anyone she met. Most recently she became a frequent flyer with Madison EMS. It was overheard on multiple occasions their talking amongst themselves about how much they enjoyed seeing her. They would joke with her, telling her she could just call if she wanted to visit. She was kind, thoughtful, and had the biggest heart. She will be sadly missed by those who knew her.
