John Galligan


John Galligan, longtime resident of Clinton, passed away on Sept. 23. He was 79 years old. John was born in Teaneck, New Jersey, to Frank and Margaret Galligan. He was a graduate of St. Cecilia’s High School in Englewood, New Jersey.

He was a member of IUEC Local 91, where he was employed as an elevator mechanic for nearly 50 years before retiring from ThyssenKrupp Elevator.

John moved his family to Connecticut in 1970, where he quickly developed a love for boating and fishing in Long Island Sound that he shared with his sons. He had a lifelong love of sports, especially those his children played, and he was a dedicated UConn Huskies fan.

John is survived by Maureen Galligan; his children, Colleen Galligan, Lorraine Garigliano, John Galligan, and Dan Galligan. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jessica Garigliano and Thomas Garigliano, and his great-grandchildren, Niko Fischer, Laila Fischer, and Luna Mae Garigliano. He is survived by two brothers and three sisters. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved “Uncle Johnny” and will miss him greatly. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Frank Galligan, brother-in-law Harold Spandonis, and niece Maryellen Spandonis.

A private Celebration of Life in honor of John will held with his family. Donations in his memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
