Margaret “Peggy” Pelzer Ridarelli


On Sept. 4, Margaret “Peggy” Pelzer Ridarelli, 85, a longtime resident of Madison, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of the late Anthony Ridarelli, loving mother of Meg Tamayo and her husband Ray of Stoneham, Massachusetts, and Laura Ridarelli and her partner Chris Baird of Dedham, Massachusetts. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Jacob and Sarah Tamayo. Peggy was born in the Hill neighborhood of New Haven on April 6, 1938, the daughter of the late Mr. John Pelzer and Mrs. Mary (Sweeney) Pelzer. Predeceased by sister Mary Jane O’Brien (Thomas O’Brien) and John Pelzer (Carol).

Peggy graduated from Sacred Heart in 1956, Albertus Magnus College in 1960, and later received her master’s degree from Wesleyan University. Before retirement in 2001, she had worked as a math teacher at Guilford High School for 37 years.

Peggy was an active parishioner at St. Margaret’s Church, involved in the prayer line, choir, and community events. She enjoyed participating in town events with the Senior Center and Habitat for Humanity. Peggy had many long-lasting friendships from her involvement in the annual Hill Reunions. She loved music, reading, and traveling with her husband. Peggy’s greatest joys in life were spending time with her family and lifelong friends.

Friends are invited to calling hours prior to Mass from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Margaret R.C. Church, 24 Academy St, Madison. Burial will follow in Westside Cemetery, 44 Race Hill Rd, Madison.
