Nancy Ann Rambeau

Nancy Ann (McCarthy) Rambeau, 76, passed away on July 12 after her long battle with cancer. She was born on Aug. 10, 1946, in Derby, to John H. McCarthy and Ann (Fisher) McCarthy.

She grew up in Ansonia, where she graduated from Ansonia High School in 1963. She went on to attend Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA, from which she graduated in 1966 with a degree in sociology. She began her career as a social worker, first in New Haven and later in San Francisco. She returned to Connecticut in the late ’70s, where she began a career in the banking industry, working for a variety of banks in both the Bridgeport and New Haven areas.

Upon her retirement, she was active with the Essex Land Trust and the Essex Boat Club. Retirement also gave her time to pursue her many passions, including gardening, cooking, genealogy, painting, and the French language. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed her trips to Ireland and Scotland while researching her family roots.

She was predeceased in 2017 by her husband of 38 years, George Rambeau, as well as her parents. She is survived by her brother Kevin McCarthy and his wife Susan of Winthrop, Maine: her nephew Ian McCarthy (Martha) of Gray, Maine; nephew Matthew McCarthy (Ashley) of Farmington, Maine; and niece Meghan Hamilton (Jesse) of Falmouth, Massachusetts. Always an animal lover, she was also survived by her beloved cat and dog, Eddie and Nell.

A gathering of friends will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, at the Essex Boat Club. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy’s memory may be made to the Essex Land Trust (PO Box 373, Essex, CT 06426 or https://essexlandtrust.org/donate/) or to a charity of your choice.
