William John Browne Jr.


William John “Bill” Browne Jr. age 84, of Killingworth, passed away peacefully on July 1 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was the beloved husband of Leona (Waselik) Browne. He was born in West Haven on Aug. 6, 1938, the son of William John Browne and Helen (Volgenau) Browne.

Bill had been a resident of Killingworth since 1969 and truly loved living and making his home in such a beautiful community. Prior to his retirement, he was a crew dispatcher for the Metro-North Railroad. He had worked for the railroad for 37 years. He was a communicant at Saint Lawrence Church in Killingworth and had been a member of the Church choir.

Bill enjoyed freshwater fishing, especially fishing for largemouth bass. He loved working on his classic American cars and hot rods, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. He will be remembered for his outside building skills, having built his large garage, gazebo, and so many other projects.

Besides his wife Sue, he leaves daughters Kimberly Browne-Martin (Jerry) of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, and Pamela Legare (Steve) of Smithfield, Rhode Island, and his son William Browne III of Deep River. Bill also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Cassandra, Anthony, and Luke Martin, and his sisters, Rosemary Carey of North Haven and Maureen Farquharson of Clinton.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 7, at Saint Lawrence Church, 7 Hemlock Drive, in Killingworth, followed by a Funeral Mass at noon. Burial will be held following Mass in the Resurrection Cemetery in Westbrook. The family gives special thanks to the Hospice Home Care Team for their care of Bill.
