Nicholas J. Grillo


Nicholas J. “Nick” Grillo, 87, a resident of North Haven for most of his life, passed away peacefully on June 28 at Waterbury Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in June of 2019. Born in Meriden on May 30, 1936, he was the son of the late Amelia (Lango) and Nicholas Grillo Sr.

He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. Nick loved going with his wife to the racetracks and country fairs throughout New England and hosting baseball card shows along with Marie and his stepgrandsons, Michael and Anthony. He and Marie loved Christmas shopping, wrapping gifts, and early Christmas dinner parties. He and Marie would see a movie at the theatres every week and were animal lovers.

Nicholas was predeceased by his second wife of 40 years and “the love of his life,” Marie (Yaccarino) Grillo. He is survived by his stepdaughters, Nancy (Paul) Cuomo, Theresa Arnold, Laura Dest; stepson Stephen Dest; step-grandchildren: Michael Barretta, Michelle (Rob) Williams, Anthony Cuomo, Carol (John) Lewia, Rachel (Jeff) Ricca, Paul D. Cuomo, Pamela (Bill) Cote, and Danielle (Heather) Dest. He is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren; a daughter, Anna Lynn (Michael) Lacomb; sons, John (Young) Grillo and Joseph (Robin) Grillo; three grandchildren and a sister Joy (Paul) Smith. He was predeceased by his son Nicholas J. Grillo Jr.

Family and friends were invited to meet on July 5 at the Office of All Saints Cemetery, 700 Middletown Avenue, North Haven, to follow the funeral procession to the graveside for a service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Meriden Humane Society, 311 Murdock Avenue, Meriden, CT 06450.
