Helena Rahmann Handy

Helena Rahmann Handy, wife of Roy Handy, passed away on June 26 after a long illness. She was born in Middletown on Aug. 21, 1943, and was the loving wife of Roy for 54 years, during which time they raised two children, Lynn Handy and William Handy.

“Lanie,” as she was called by her family and friends, graduated from Daniel Hand High School in 1961, attended Stone College in New Haven, and became a bookkeeper. She worked at the B.B. Munger Lumber Co. in Madison before the children arrived and rejoined them after her children completed school. She was fortunate enough to spend the children’s childhood as a stay-at-home mom, as her greatest joy was her husband and children.

Lanie was predeceased by her children; her mother and father, Helen and Dietrich Rahmann; brother Dietrich Rahmann Jr. and his wife Nancy; in-laws, William and Marguerite Handy. She leaves to celebrate her life, her husband, Roy Handy; brother Ted Rahmann and his wife, Kathy; brother-in-law Wayne Handy and his wife, Susan; sister-in-law Sue Doerrer and her husband Kurt; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A special thank you to her friends, staff, and fellow patients, who made her life at Gladeview a second home.

Services were held on July 6 at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church Street, Guilford, followed by interment at Westside Cemetery, Race Hill Road, North Madison. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shoreline Soup Kitchen and Pantry, 222 McVeagh Road, Westbrook. Lanie strongly believed in neighbors helping neighbors.
