Charles J. Metzler II


Charles J. “Butch” Metzler II, 70, of East Haven, passed away June 30 at St. Raphael Campus of Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born Aug. 19, 1952, in Meriden, to Charles and Jean (Pipicelli) Metzler.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Eileen (Salvati), and their son Charles “C.J.” Metzler III of East Haven, along with Butch’s three sisters, Debbie Esler (Jerry) of Wallingford, Cyndie Paul (Rich) of Florida, and Bonnie Garro (Mark) of Florida. Butch is also survived by numerous nieces/nephews, great-nieces/great-nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, nephew Jonathan Esler, and sister-in-law Cynthia Salvati.

Butch Metzler was a selfless and dedicated member of the East Haven community and retired as an employee with over 40 years of service at Stop & Shop in East Haven. He will be leaving behind a legacy of service and compassion. He was known for his unwavering commitment to helping others and was actively involved in various clubs and organizations, including the St. Andrew Society, East Haven Food Pantry, East Haven Zoning Commission, Wallingford Rod and Gun Club, and Republican Town Committee, and he was a supporter of East Haven athletics.

In addition to his community service, he was a loving husband and father, cherishing his family above all else. Butch’s impact on the community and love for his family will be deeply missed, and his memory will continue to inspire acts of kindness and generosity.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 7, at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. All are welcome to meet and attend a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, in East Lawn Cemetery, 58 River Street, East Haven.
