Michael Santamaria


Michael Santamaria, 67, a longtime resident of Guilford and most recently of Palm Bay, Florida, passed away in Melbourne, Florida, on May 9. He was the beloved husband of Linda (Wilson) Santamaria. Michael was born in New Haven on May 27, 1955, son of the late Dominic J. Santamaria and Rose (DiPinto) Santamaria.

He was the loving father of Sarah DeFonzo of Florida, Angela Cimino (Anthony) of Clinton, and his stepchildren, David and Nick Ferris of Connecticut, Jose Gonzalez Jr. (Emily) of Clinton, and Sarah Archer (Ben) of New London. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Alexa and John Dube, Samantha DeFonzo, Anthony, Nico, Dominic and Ava Cimino, Eddie and Sam Gonzalez, and Cheyla, Araceli, and Ruby Archer. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of Lorenzo “Larry” Santamaria of Guilford, Marie Cullen of Georgia, and Debra Bennett of New Haven. He was predeceased by three brothers, Antonio, Dominic, and John, and two sisters, Patricia and Jenny.

Michael attended Guilford Public Schools. He worked as a chemical compounder for Arkwright (Bruning) Company in Guilford for 23 years. He also worked in the deli department at Finest and Shoprite. Before his retirement in 2020 and moving to Florida, he had also worked at Biomed Devices in Quality Control.

Michael enjoyed spending time with his family the most — helping his brother Larry at the local fairs cooking steak and cheese sandwiches and being at the beach.

Friends are invited to calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 19, at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church Street, Guilford. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, in St. George Cemetery, Hubbard Road, Guilford.
