Margaret Louise Duffy

Margaret Louise Duffy (née Noone), 84, passed away peacefully on April 28 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. A longtime resident of Madison, she spent her final months in Solstice Senior Living in Guilford with her husband of 63 years, Thomas Patrick Duffy, who survives her.

Margaret was born in Jersey City on Oct. 27, 1938, one of seven children of John and Ida Noone, and was raised on 213th Street in the Inwood section of Manhattan. She graduated from St. Vincent Ferrer High School in Manhattan, having already begun working as a secretary at the FBI. She and Tom married in 1960, and after initially living in Freehold, New Jersey, moved to Madison, where they raised their four children. Margaret eventually went back to work as a paralegal at Sivin and Ellsworth of Old Saybrook and then for Waller, Smith, and Palmer of New London, earning a reputation for her integrity and work ethic, but also her kindness and helpful nature before retiring at age 70.

Margaret was a wonderful mother who was devoted to raising her children, and she often volunteered at their schools. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, sewing, playing cards, games of bocce at the senior center, lunch with her girlfriends, and visiting her grandchildren. She was active in her church, teaching CCD and volunteering at St. Margaret’s in Madison.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Valerie Towill (William) of Glastonbury, Carolyn Duffy of Cornelius, North Carolina; Susan Duffy-Corr (Robert) of Charlestown, Rhode Island, and Thomas Patrick Duffy Jr. (Xianghong) of Garden City Park, New York. She was also a devoted and proud grandmother to Emily and Ross Towill, Delaney Duffy, Samuel Corr, and Tarou and Jirou Duffy. She is also survived by her sisters, Sister Valerie Noone, OP, of Glastonbury, and Mary Rottino of Manasquan, New Jersey; her brother Thomas Noone (Maureen) of Yonkers, New York; and her sister-in-law Katherine Noone of Edgewater, New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Bernard Noone and John Noone, her brother Patrick Noone and his wife Virginia; and her brother-in-law William Rottino.
