Marie L. Scott-Lauzier

Marie L. Scott-Lauzier of Westbrook passed away at home on the morning of March 28 at the age of 80. She was born in Bristol on August 20, 1942, the only child of Leon and Martha Garlewski. She leaves behind her husband, David R. Lauzier, and several cousins.

She attended Bristol schools and was a 1964 graduate of Central Connecticut State College. She went on to teach third grade at Patterson and Stafford Schools in Bristol until her retirement in 1999. Marie loved teaching her students and would come home each day with tales of adventures in teaching. She and David moved to Westbrook in 2005, and she quirkily decided to introduce herself as Maria instead of Marie.

Marie loved twice-yearly trips to the Caribbean and married David, after a nine-year engagement, on the beach of Peter Island, Tortola, British Virgin Islands, on July 13, 1994. Other travel exploits included Bali, Jakarta, Hong Kong, and one of the last Concorde flights to Paris.

She liked antiques, collecting and selling records, Starbucks Frappuccinos, and clothes. She had a penchant for hats, scarves, and braiding her waist-long hair. Her hairdresser Beverly once exclaimed, “Maria! You got style!”

Marie was laid to rest on March 31 at her family plot in Hillside Cemetery, Terryville.
