Jean A. Stasiunas

Jean A. Stasiunas, 93, of Clinton, passed away peacefully on April 12. Jean was born on Sept. 10, 1929, in Waterbury, to the late Thomas G. and Sally (Sakocius) Quilter.

She attended Waterbury Catholic High School and was the devoted wife of Joseph F. Stasiunas for 60 years prior to his passing in 2011.

A loving and gracious homemaker, she took great pride in caring for her family. Sunday dinners were a weekly tradition, and every holiday, big or small, was celebrated with great enthusiasm, and always, dessert! Jean retired from her job in the office at Holy Cross High School in 1993, and along with Joe, they embraced their new roles as Grandma and Papa to their three grandchildren, who gave them so much joy. A parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Waterbury and St. Mary Church of The Visitation in Clinton, her faith was steadfast and her devotion to the Blessed Mother gave her strength.

Jean is survived by her loving daughter, Jodie L. Smith, and son-in-law, Thomas H Smith. She will be missed by her beloved grandchildren: Kelsie A. Smith, with whom she shared her home for the past six years, Brendan Thomas Joseph Smith and his fiancée Samantha Rae LeMire, Timothy Craig Smith, and Gianna L. Abbatello. They were the light of her life. She leaves her loving nieces and nephews and their families; and her best friend, Pat Ladun. Their Tuesday phone calls were the highlight of her week. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter Nancy in 2010, her sister Joan in 2017, and her brother Tom in 1979.

Her family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Evergreen Woods Health Center and Connecticut Hospice for their extraordinary and loving care.

A Visitation was held on April 19 at Swan Funeral Home, 80 East Main Street, Clinton. A funeral Mass was on April 19 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 54 Grove Street, Clinton. A burial followed at St. Mary Cemetery, Beach Park Road, Clinton. Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405, or a charity that is special to you.
