John J. Pompano


John J. Pompano, 78, of East Haven, entered the Gates of Heaven on March 22. He was the son of the late Raymond and Constance Pompano of East Haven. John leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Ann Marie Pompano; his children, Thomas Pompano of Hamden, and Stephanie Pompano of East Haven, who will miss him dearly. He also leaves behind his three grandsons whom he loved and adored, Steven Ewing, Glen Pompano, and Dominic Hood. John is survived by his three siblings, Raymond (Angela) Pompano of East Haven, Joseph (Deborah) Pompano of Virginia, and Paula (Peter) Grippo of East Haven, and his brother-in-law Robert (Barbara) Nicoletti of Wallingford, as well as several nieces and nephews.

John retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 41 years of service. He also worked at A+P Liquors for 20 years and most recently worked the last four years at the Gulf gas station in East Haven.

He was an avid bowler for many years with his family, bowling in the Raymond Pompano Memorial League, named for John’s father after his passing. John loved being with his family and friends and touched the lives of everyone he met. He will be loved and missed forever.

Calling hours were held on March 27 at East Haven Memorial Funeral Home, 425 Main Street. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on March 28 for John at St. Vincent de Paul Church (St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish), 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven. Burial followed in All Saints Cemetery.
