William ‘Bill’ Davies


William “Bill” Davies passed away peacefully in Guilford on March 28. He was 81 years old. Bill was born in Cheadle, Cheshire, England, on July 31, 1941.

He graduated from the University of Sheffield with a B.Sc Hons in 1963, and in 1966, with a Ph.D. in chemical engineering. At the start of his career, Bill and his wife Vivien worked in Nairobi, Kenya, where Bill developed local industries and where their daughter was born. After returning to England for a few years, Bill was relocated to Stamford with his company American Cyanamid where he worked as a research chemical engineer until he retired to Guilford.

Bill was a committed Christian and a very humble, caring man. His hobbies were beekeeping, gardening, sailing, and golf. In his youth, he was an avid rugby player.

He is survived by his loving wife, Vivien; a daughter, Ruth (Michael); a son, Peter (Melanie); and six grandchildren: Luke (Madi), Katelyn, Laura and Emily Prothero and Abby and Mark Davies; also two sisters, Elizabeth North and Gillian McGowan and their families in England.

Friends were invited to a funeral service on April 6 at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church Street, Guilford. Burial will follow in Alder Brook Cemetery, 375 Boston Street, Guilford. Donations in Bill’s memory will go to support the Rossholme School Project in Nairobi, Kenya, which helps to provide food and education to poor children.
