Gary J. Gaube


Gary J. Gaube, 71, of Deep River, passed away April 3 at Artis Senior Living and Memory Care of Branford.

He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2015.

Gary was born Dec. 10, 1951, in Binghamton, New York, to Anna Pudish Gaube and Joseph L Gaube. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ellen Slivka Gaube of Deep River; son Nicholas Gaube and daughter-in-law, Maria Gaube of Long Island City, New York; daughter Joanna Gaube of Chicago; and brother Joseph A Gaube and sister-in-law Patricia Gaube of Binghamton, New York; also sisters-in-law Mary Louise Hilbert of Oviedo, Florida, and Daria Slivka of Dallas; brother-in-law David Slivka and his wife Barbara of Baldwinsville, New York.

Gary graduated from Binghamton Catholic Central High School, Binghamton, New York, and SUNY Binghamton with a Bachelor of Arts in business and a Master of Science in accounting.

Gary resided with his family in Woodstock for 21 years and lastly in Deep River for seven years.

He was employed by Coopers and Lybrand, CPA and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, both in Binghamton, New York; Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson, Illinois; Oneida City Hospital, Oneida, New York; Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo; and Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket, Rhode Island as President and CEO.

During his healthcare career, he received a number of honors on both the state and local levels for his unwavering commitment to improving healthcare in northern Rhode Island.

There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 14 Prospect St, Essex. Interment will be private and at a later date. A reception and celebration of Gary’s life will follow for family and friends at the Griswold Inn, Main St, Essex.
