Bernice R. Tigner


Bernice R. Tigner, 93, of Fenton, Michigan, and former longtime resident of Guilford, passed away with her family at her bedside on Feb. 11.

Funeral Mass was celebrated on Feb. 17 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 North Adelaide Street, Fenton. Father Robert Copeland officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Bernice was born on Dec. 7, 1929, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Theresa Rutkoski.

Bernice married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Tigner, on July 10, 1948, in Flint; he preceded her in death on April 15, 2002. She was a devoted wife to Tom for over 54 years. She was his “Babe.” Bernice enjoyed golfing with Tom as retirees in South Carolina before moving back to Michigan. Sewing, crocheting, and crafts were hobbies she enjoyed and excelled at. Family always came first for Bernice. She was gracious, beautiful, and she will be missed by all those who were fortunate to have known her.

A loving mother to son Michael (Marcia) Tigner; two daughters, Connie Tigner Joyce (Roger) and Catherine Tigner Duffield. Bernice cherished her eight grandchildren, Mark, Scott and Julie, Mitchell, Ashley and Lauren, Benjamin and Ann; she was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren. Bernice is survived by sister Mary Ann George Dowan of Flushing, Michigan, and Joseph Rutkoski of Arizona and Alaska. She was preceded in death by siblings Robert Rutkoski, Eugene Rutkoski, Daniel Rutkoski, and Janeen Robbins.
