Raymond W. Beavis


Raymond W. Beavis of Branford died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023, at the V.A. Medical Center in West Haven. Raymond was born in New Haven on Nov. 4, 1940, son of the late Rudolph H. and Helen Kowalski Beavis.

He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in South Korea along the DMZ. He was an ironworker for many years for Locals 15 and 424. Ray was a car enthusiast and belonged to the Thunder Rods Car Club, with whom he participated in many car cruises. He was a skilled welder and mechanic. He knew how to do numerous things, including plumbing, gardening, and electrical. He was always there to give a helping hand.

Ray is survived by his children, Debra (David) Clem of Wallingford, Denis (Yaya) Beavis of East Haven, Daniel Beavis of Wallingford, and Shannon (Damon) Bender of Valley Cottage, New York; his grandchildren, Zachary, Matthew, and Taylor Clem and Jacob, Madison, and Lucas Bender; and his sister Mona Beavis, with whom he resided. He was predeceased by his son Darren Beavis.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and may attend a funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday, in Trinity Episcopal Church, 1109 Main Street, on the Green in Branford.
