Joseph L. Genera

On Feb. 9, Joseph L. Genera passed to his eternal rest at the age of 98. He was born to Italian immigrants Mary and Charles Genera in New Haven on Jan. 25, 1925.

During World War II, he proudly served his country as a radio operator mechanic on military planes such as the B-29. He would proudly demonstrate his knowledge of Morse Code well into his later years.

Devoted husband of the late Catherine Marino Genera. Father of Catherine Genera Carter of Ohio, predeceased by his beloved son Joseph P. Genera of Guilford. Joseph leaves behind his daughter-in-law, Kathleen Bryant Genera; niece Gina Wallace; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A former New Haven police officer, Joseph would later become the successful owner of several local businesses, North Branford Autobody and Stop & Go Transmissions among them. Joe enjoyed raising many animals at his home in Guilford. Suffolk sheep and domesticated geese would graze in the bucolic pasture behind his home, and his dogs, Blacky and King, were forever at his side. He was a man of many talents, most notably wine-making, wood working, and gardening. His family will cherish his many handcrafted gifts.
