Raymond ‘Buddy’ Scanlon, Jr.


Raymond “Buddy” Scanlon Jr., 80, of Clinton, passed away peacefully and comfortably on Feb. 6.

Born Jan. 8, 1943, in New Haven to the late Raymond and Helen (O’Connor) Scanlon.

Bud was a kind, friendly gentleman, a friend to all, a loving husband, and a wonderful father and grandfather. Bud was a hard worker and a proud Teamster. In retirement, he enjoyed bowling, taking daily morning walks at Hammonasset, taking Patty to the casino, and watching the boats at the town marina. Bud loved his family and was proud of their accomplishments. They were a great source of pride for him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Patricia (Ruggiero) Scanlon; his four children, Raymond “Skip” (Jullie) Scanlon, Dennis (Kristie) Scanlon, Heather Scanlon, and Shauna (Devin) Kelly all of Clinton; his granddaughters, Chelsea, Carlie, Jenna, and Sydney Scanlon; and his grandsons, Evan, Robert, Ryan Scanlon, Owen, Colin, and Adam Kelly. Also, his siblings, Carolyn (Joseph) DeGrand, Timothy (Linda) Scanlon, and Richard Scanlon; his best friend, Charlie Mannix of Clinton; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Ellen Scanlon.

The family would like to thank all of the hospice nurses who took such wonderful care of Bud: Angela, Ashley, Gina, Lynn, and Michael.

Visiting hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Swan Funeral Home in Clinton. A funeral Mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Buddy’s name to Home Care Plus Community Health Care and Hospice, 753 Boston Post Road, Guilford CT 06437.
