Clifford ‘Chip’ Downer

Clifford “Chip” Downer, 55, of Bloomfield, raised in Guilford, passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 24. Partner of Mark Ramsdell, Chip was born in New Haven on March 22, 1967, son of Donald Downer and Catherine Gibbs Downer of Guilford.

He was the loving father of Reverend Maddie Foster and her husband Jonathan of Norwood, Massachusetts., Shelbie Downer and her life partner Robert of North Branford, and Jeremy Downer of North Branford. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Logan and McCoy. Brother of Cynthia Leslie and her husband Stephan of Stuarts Draft, Virginia., and Douglas Downer and his wife Paula of Guilford. He is also survived by his two nephews, Justin and Colin; a niece, Alice; and his former wife, Jennifer Ramsay.

Mr. Downer is a 1985 graduate of Guilford High School and graduated from the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy in 2012. Chip was a business owner/creator of the wellness center The Center For Higher Living as well as a licensed massage therapist, shaman, and minister from the Universal Life Church Ministries.

Through the Center Of Higher Living, Chip helped hundreds of people live spiritually awakened lives. He lived what he taught: that we are spiritual beings; that we are here on this earth to spiritually evolve; that love is our essence; that change is inevitable; that our life experiences are there for our learning, growth, and healing.

Friends are invited to calling hours from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford, followed by a Memorial service at 6 p.m. at Guilford Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held at Pasta Avest, 680 Boston Post Rd, Guilford.
