John ‘Jack’ P. Roy

John P. Roy “Jack”, 86, of Westbrook, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Jan. 13. He was the youngest of four boys born on July 18, 1936, to Albert and Ellen Dwyer Roy. He grew up in West Hartford and graduated from Hall High School in 1954.

Jack attended Syracuse University (ROTC) and was a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He graduated in 1958 as a distinguished military graduate and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Upon graduation, Jack began active duty under the direct command of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was responsible for the transmission and security of classified material. In 1960, he was honorably discharged with the rank of First Lieutenant. Jack then went on to enjoy a successful career with Southern New England Telephone Co. for over 30 years.

In 1960, Jack married the love of his life, Anne (Corrette) Roy. Together they raised four children, first living in Clinton, then settling in the home they built in Westbrook. A dedicated communicant of St. Mark the Evangelist Rc Church, he raised his family with the same unwavering sense of faith.

Jack was a diehard fan of Syracuse football and basketball. He rooted for his Orangemen until the end! “Go, ‘Cuse!” Like his father, Jack loved the outdoors. He thoroughly enjoyed mowing his lawn and perfecting his gardens. His most treasured times were those spent with his family, especially taking beach walks with Anne.
