Robert ‘Bob’ D. Hartley


Robert D. Hartley, 77, of Madison passed away on Dec. 27. He was born Oct. 18, 1945, from West Sayville, New York part of Long Island to David and Roberta Hartley who both predeceased him.

After graduating from Sayville High School, he served in the United States Air Force. For several years he was stationed at Sembach Air force Base in Donnersbergkreis Germany, as part of the seventh air command squadron.

Bob was a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University, where he earned three degrees, bachelor in education and two masters’ degrees. He taught science at Adams Middle School in Guilford for over 30 years.

Bob leaves behind his beloved wife Carol of 25 years; and her children, William Barry of Fort Myers, Florida, and Michelle Barry, her husband Adam Cost of Guilford; and grandchildren, Austin, Garet, and Mya. He also leaves his two sisters, Joyce Hanak of Long Island, and Janet Nyland, her husband Stephen of Georgia; and nieces and a nephew.

Bob was an avid sailor and outdoorsman with a passion for fishing and hunting. At the request of Bob, there will be no services.
