Marion M. Johnson

Marion M. Johnson, 75, of North Haven passed away peacefully on Dec. 17 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of 57 years to Robert E. Johnson, Jr.; loving mother of Rob Johnson III (Sarah) and Eric Johnson; cherished Oma of Natalie Johnson; beloved sister of Doreen (Joseph) and Renee (Ron) Randall with whom she had a very special bond; loving Aunt to Stephanie, Sarah, and Joey; and great-aunt to Isaac and Illiana.

Marion was born in Vienna, Austria on Jan. 11, 1947, and was the daughter of the late Raymond M. Surridge and Herta H. Schoeller Barese, stepdaughter to the late Vincent Barese whom she referred to as her loving father. Marion grew up in the Annex, New Haven and graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in 1965. Shortly after they married, Marion moved to Munich, Germany with Robert where he was stationed for two years with the United States Army. Upon his return home from serving a tour of duty in Vietnam, Marion and Robert built their forever home in North Haven where they raised their two sons and resided happily and lovingly for the rest of their life together.

Marion had worked as an office worker for the former Stop & Shop on Frontage Road, East Haven and later, for the former Blue Cross/Blue Shield of North Haven. Marion loved the film The Sound of Music, reading, swimming, the music of Andre Rieu and his orchestra, watching birds and wildlife in the field behind her house, “Marion’s movie nights” with her “hubby,” traveling, especially to Austria, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Ireland, as well as the Von Trapp lodge in Stowe, Vermont. Marion was a righteously good and happy person and was loved dearly by all who knew her. She was devoted to her family who she loved unconditionally, especially her two sons and daughter-in-law Sarah, and granddaughter Natalie.

The visiting hours were on Dec. 27, at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Closer to Free Fund, Smilow c/o Yale New Haven Hospital Development Office, P.O. Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508. www.northhavenfuneral.com.
