Robert Stanley Brunell


Robert Stanley “Bob” Brunell, 91 years old, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sept. 18 while at home with his family. Bob was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 4, 1931 to Arthur and Margaret (Stanley) Brunell and spent most of his childhood and young adult years in Chicago.

Bob graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, and then served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he went to work for his father, and shortly after for R.R. Donnelley & Sons in 1959, at the age of 28. He had a rewarding career taking him to Old Saybrook, Elgin, Illinois, Harrisonburg, Virginia, and back to Old Saybrook, to many old and dear friends. Bob retired as a vice president after 34 years with Donnelley’s.

He loved baseball (Cubs), golfing and traveling the US and the world with the love of his life, Annabelle (LaRose). They were married 64 years, and raised three children, Beth, Bennet, and Gail. Bob served the Lord all his adult life, teaching Sunday school, serving on numerous committees, and acting as a deacon. He was a lover of life and will always be remembered for the everyday joys he found in the beauty of nature and spending time with people. He was a generous and kind soul.

He is survived by a beloved brother Michal Brunell; two daughters, Beth Brunell and Gail Hermann (Josh); grandchildren, Robert and Amy Kendig (Zach Moore); daughter-in-law Jackie Brunell; and many loving nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his son Bennet E. Brunell; his wife Annabelle; and his two sisters, Patricia Comstock and Doris Lundberg.
