Carolyn Boyd Gambardella


Carolyn Jean Boyd Gambardella passed away in Port St. Lucie, Florida, with her loving family by her side, on Aug. 4 .

Carolyn Boyd and Andrew “Andy” Gambardella were married Nov. 5, 1966. Carolyn was born in Augusta, Maine, and grew up in East Haven. Before moving to Florida in 2020, she was a longtime Guilford resident. She graduated from East Haven High School in 1962 and worked for the VA Hospital in West Haven as an executive secretary to the chief of administration. Carolyn went on with her studies at the Yale School of Nursing and graduated in 1968. For 12 years, she worked as a psychiatric nurse for Yale Mental Health and for 24 years, she worked for Apple Health Care until her retirement.

Carolyn’s first love was nursing, family, and friends. She also loved to travel; and in 1981, she became a licensed travel agent. Carolyn was also an avid boater and served two terms as commodore for the MYC in Westbrook.

She was the adopted grandmother to the Regan family of Joe, Nina ,and the twins, Samantha and Joe of Old Saybrook.

She is survived by her siblings: Marsha MacKenzie of Florida, Janet Pellegrino of Massachusetts, Ellen and Bob Preiss of Florida, Linda and Neal Schmidt of Connecticut, and Richard and Carla Boyd of Texas. She was predeceased by her parents, Harrison and Phyllis Boyd; and a brother, Harrison Boyd. In addition to her family, she leaves loving brothers and sisters-in-law, Marge and Gerry Gedrim of Branford and Jim “Vin” and Marguerite Gambardella of Westbrook.

Friends are invited to a memorial service at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church Street, Guilford. Burial services will be held privately. To share a memory or leave condolences, visit www.guilfordfuneralhome.com.
