Ralph V. Streeto

Ralph V. Streeto, 88, of East Haven passed away Sept. 11 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born Oct. 4, 1933, in New Haven to Frank and Mary (Orefice) Streeto. Ralph is survived by his son, Ralph Streeto Jr. (fiancée, Nancy) of East Haven along with two granddaughters, Courtney and Ashley Streeto. He is also survived by his siblings, Carmel Hitchcock of Branford, Patty Streeto of North Carolina, and Robert Streeto of North Branford, and numerous nieces/nephews, and longtime friend Jack, who would visit until the very end where they would reminisce about the good old days.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Caroline (Carrol) Streeto (1988); and siblings, Frank Streeto, Edward Streeto, Susan Streeto, Victoria “Pinky” Brancato, and Joan Mencum.

Ralph spent many years working as a diesel mechanic at several oil companies in New Haven. During this time he enjoyed restoring vintage cars and meeting his friends for a beer. He tended a garden for many years, where he enjoyed giving most of his crops away to his East Haven neighbors. He was a lover of animals throughout his life, with his most recent dogs, April and Cindy and cats, Heidi and Buddy spending time with him in his later years. As Ralph always said: “I know I can trust animals, but I’m not too sure about people.”

The family would like to thank the many nurses, social workers, physical therapists, and aides who assisted Ralph in his final years, in particular Jazz, who provided excellent care and made him comfortable every day and enabled him to remain at home for as long as he could.

A private graveside service was held at East Lawn Cemetery in East Haven with full U.S. Army Military Honors. All services are under the care of the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven.
