Martha Mathison Fuller

Martha Mathison “Marty” Fuller, age 89, passed away peacefully on Sept. 1. She was born in Hartford, on April 19, 1933, the younger daughter of Robert E. and Elizabeth Wurthmann Mathison.

She grew up in West Hartford, married at age 17, and raised her family in Harbor View in Clinton. There was always a smile on her face to go with her positive and sunny disposition. The beach was a favorite place of hers. Marty was an adventurous woman who soloed a small plane and rode in a hot air balloon, a glider, and an open cockpit biplane. She rode a motorcycle and loved to take her grandchildren for rides in her VW bug convertible. Later in life, she became an accomplished rhyming poet. Marty loved music and often sang aloud as she cleaned the house. She played the organ and instilled her love of music into her children. For many years she worked at the YMCA, babysitting young children as their parents used the facilities. All children were precious to her.

She is predeceased by her son Robert L Fuller. A sister, E Jean Mathison, survives her. Also surviving her are two sons, Kit (Wanda) Fuller and Fred (Penny Fletcher) Fuller, both of Colorado; a daughter, Marcy Fuller, of Westbrook, with whom she lived; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Fuller; also, her beloved grandchildren: Heather (Jonathan) Culwell and Graham (Kristina) Fuller, Katrina (Todd) Aiken and Erik (Lee Ling Ho) Gustafson; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will hold a private memorial at a later date.
