Brenda B. Casey

Brenda B. Casey, longtime resident of Guilford, passed away peacefully on Aug. 26 from cancer and COVID. Brenda was born in 1939 in Emporia, Kansas. She is survived by her sister Paula Peterson of Topeka, Kansas; her children, Erin Green of Denver, Coloardo (m. to Peter Green) and Eric Casey (m. to Cathy Gutierrez) of New York City; and two grandchildren, Samantha Green (24) and Jeremy Green (21) residing in Colorado.

Brenda was an accomplished musician. She played piano professionally across the shoreline community and had a mastery of the Great American Songbook. Blessed with perfect pitch, she could play almost any song upon request in any key. She was also devoted to word games and worked tirelessly to become a nationally ranked Scrabble player, competing in tournaments regionally and nationwide over the past 20 years. With a Ph.D. in French, she became a university professor in Connecticut and continued her passion for the French language and culture with many trips to Paris, the city that most captured her heart. Her French speaking skills were so finely honed that Parisians mistook her for a native speaker. She also cherished her role as a grandmother to Samantha and Jeremy, connecting with them during frequent visits out to Colorado. In addition, she enjoyed many years of tennis, pickleball and friendship at Guilford Racquet and Swim Club.

The family will be holding a virtual memorial in the coming weeks. Please visit www.guilfordfuneralhome.com for details of the memorial and to read more about Brenda’s life.
