Patricia Ann “Pat” (McCarty) Garty


Patricia Ann (McCarty) Garty of Franklin, Massachusetts passed away peacefully with family by her side on Aug. 1 at the age of 96.

Pat was born in New London on Jan. 4, 1926 to the late Robert P.J. and Lyda K. (Griser) McCarty. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years Robert F. Garty.

Pat grew up in the Spring Glen neighborhood of Hamden. Upon graduation from Hamden High School, she attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and became a dental hygienist in New Haven. She met her husband Bob in Hamden and they married in November 1952. They lived in East Orange, New Jersey; Chicago, Illinois; Ridgefield and Clinton, before moving to Franklin, Massachusetts in October 2014.

Pat was a devout Catholic and active member of St. Mary’s parish in Ridgefield and served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary’s of the Visitation in Clinton and St. Mary’s parish in Franklin. The Connecticut shoreline was where Pat learned to basketweave and share her love of the craft and creative talent with family and friends.

Pat is survived by her son Robert T. Garty and his wife Joanne, of Medfield, Massachusetts; and daughter Marybeth G. Standbridge and husband Keith, of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Also surviving are her cherished grandchildren, John Garty and his wife Alyssa, Katherine Standbridge, Peter Standbridge, Jack Standbridge, and Paige Garty. She is also survived by her brother John McCarty and his wife Joanne and was predeceased by brother Robert McCarty and sisters, Mary Winifred Curran and Eleanor McNamara. As part of a large family, she had many nieces and nephews and leaves behind many good friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial Mass at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at St. Mary’s Church of the Visitation, 54 Grove St., Clinton, CT. Following the Mass, the family will receive family and friends at the parish hall for fellowship and refreshments.

A private interment ceremony will take place at the cemetery.
