Pamela Elizabeth (Schor) Maenpaa

Pamela Elizabeth (Schor) Maenpaa, a resident of Madison since 1974, passed away peacefully at Yale New Haven Hospital on Aug. 4 with her children by her side.

Pam was born in Conneaut, Ohio on April 17, 1946, the only child of the late Ernest T. Schor and Alberta (Dewey) Schor. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Jacob Maenpaa and the loving mother of Julie Kelly of Vista, California and Scott Maenpaa of Lynn, Massachusetts. In addition to her children, she is survived by her son-in-law Richard and grandchildren, Sarah and Sean of Vista, California; her brothers-in-law, Thomas (Sue) Maenpaa and Michael (Dianne) Maenpaa of Wisconsin; her sisters-in-law, Judith Cline of Ohio and Barbara Barnum of Wisconsin; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Pam was the first person in her family to attend college. A graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology, she worked as a homemaker, mother, secretary, and small business owner who managed personal affairs and bookkeeping for individuals and businesses along the shoreline. She served as Clerk of the Old Quarry Association for decades. Many prized her keen attention to detail and organizational skills.

Pam was a creative person who crocheted, gardened, painted, and taught crafting classes. She especially loved entertaining for the holidays and sending and receiving Christmas cards. For many years, Pam and Ed owned a boat and enjoyed fishing, waterskiing, and touring in Long Island Sound with their dear friends from Bayberry Creek Marina. She loved to make memories on vacations with her children and grandchildren, and took them on trips to Mexico, Dominican Republic, Washington D.C., Colonial Williamsburg, and Hawaii.

Friends are invited to a memorial service and reception at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15 at North Madison Congregational Church, 1271 Durham Rd, Madison. Following the reception, there will be a graveside ceremony at Westside Cemetery, 63 Race Hill Rd in Madison, where Pam and Ed’s ashes will be interred.

In lieu of flowers, Pam requested memorial contributions to NEADS World Class Service Dogs, www.neads.org, 305 Redemption Rock Trail, Princeton, MA 01541 or to Canine Companions, www.canine.org, 124 Rancho Del Oro Dr, Oceanside, CA 92057. These organizations were important to her because NEADS provided Scott with his wonderful service dogs Alex and Cash, and Julie and her family volunteer as puppy raisers for Canine Companions. Arrangements are in care of the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. To share a memory or leave condolences, please visit www.guilfordfuneralhome.com.
