Joseph Oddo

Joseph Oddo III, 75, of North Haven, passed away unexpectedly on June 29 at Yale New Haven Hospital/St. Raphael Campus. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Sabia Oddo, to whom he was married three weeks shy of 54 years. He was born in New Haven on Nov. 13, 1946, and was the son of the late Joseph Oddo and Sophie Schwatz Oddo DeCarlo.

He worked as a teacher in Hamden public schools for 42 years and for the Frankson Fence Company for 53 years. He was also the head baseball coach for Hamden High School, the assistant football coach for Notre Dame (WH) High School, North Branford High School, East Haven High School, and West Haven High School. He was an avid sports fan, especially of his beloved NY Giants.

He was father of Joseph James (Sandra) Oddo, Jon Nicholas (Lindsay) Oddo and Jason Paul (Larysa) Oddo; beloved grandfather of Joseph Jr., Riannon, Adriana, Nathan, Calvin, Madden, and Milana. He is also survived by his sister Judith (Robert) Ellis.

The visiting hours were on July 5, at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on July 6, in Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Therese Church, 555 Middletown Avenue, North Haven. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
