07/07/2022 12:00 AMJohn E. Freitag, 77, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on June 28 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was the beloved husband of 52 years to Marie Iovino Freitag. John was born in New Haven, on Feb. 17, 1945, and was the son of the late John and Cecelia TenEyke Freitag.
A graduate of Wilbur Cross High School, John served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for many years until his retirement. John was a former little league baseball coach in North Haven, enjoyed golfing, oldies music, and was a member of the Jolly Timers.
He was the father of John Paul Freitag and Steven Ralph Freitag (Emily); beloved and proud grandfather of Olivia, Kaitlyn, and Natalie Freitag; and brother of Virginia Johnson (the late Charles), Cecelia Gianelli (Joseph) and Mary Hannon (Richard); brother-in-law of Lisa Kleinberg (Barry), Cindy Piccerillo (Jon) and Michael Iovino (Linda). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
